How Do I Check The Egine Oil Level

Checking your engine oil level is the most important thing you can do to keep your car in top-notch shape.  With service intervals getting longer and longer it is even more important because most engines will consume some oil over time.  You should check you oil every couple thousand kilometers.

Luckily checking your oil is a very quick and easy task.  The best time to check your oil is first thing in the morning before starting your engine.  If you do need to check it after the car has been running, give it a few minutes to cool down and for the oil to settle.  Just follow the simple steps below.

1.  Pull the hood release on the inside of the car.  On almost all models this is in front of the driver's door near your left shin.

2.  Now locate the hood release under the hood itself, raise the hood and put the prop rod in place if needed.

3.  Locate the oil dipstick.  It is a small orange loop that should be easily visible.  On the picture above it is near the front of the engine.

4.  Wipe the dipstick clean with a rag or paper towel.  Now look closely at the end and locate the full mark so that you know where it is.

5.  Reinsert the dipstick all the way, then take it back out to see where the oil line comes up to.  If you are at the full line then congratulations you are done.  If you are below then you need to add oil.

Always be sure to add the right type of oil for your Volkswagen.  If you are not 100% sure then check with us and we will make sure to sell you the right type.  The wrong oil can void your factory warranty.  Also buy the oil from us, it is usually cheaper than the other stores and we will top it up for you at no charge!
